Reading a Quarterly Investment Report
Learn to interpret the key sections of your quarterly investment report.
What to look for in your quarterly report
Every quarter, you receive an investment report from Faith Foundation Northwest. This lesson walks you through each section so you can ask informed questions at your next board meeting.
Section 1: Portfolio summary
The first page shows your total portfolio value, the change from the prior quarter, and your current asset allocation. Compare the allocation percentages to your Investment Policy Statement (IPS) to ensure you are still within policy ranges.
Section 2: Performance vs. benchmark
This section compares your portfolio return against a relevant benchmark index. Small deviations are normal; large and persistent underperformance warrants a conversation with your advisor.
Section 3: Holdings detail
The holdings table lists every fund in your portfolio with its current value, weight, and quarterly return. Look for any fund that has grown to more than 5% above its target weight โ this may trigger a rebalance.
